PART 1: INTAKE & INVESTIGATION
On June 4, the panelists will focus on Intake and Investigation. From their perspectives in different practice areas (medical malpractice, ride share personal injury, and employment law) the panelists will explore what they look for in deciding whether to take a case.
Every plaintiff attorney has signed up a case prematurely and wished to turn back time. The panelists will explain how they approach a possible case including causes of action, case value, assessment of the client, and damages. Each panelist will provide you valuable tips and useful tools for choosing meritorious case in these specialized fields.
PART 2: DISCOVERY
On June 18, the panelists will focus on Discovery. They will share how best to gather the information you need to establish liability through formal and informal discovery and will provide strategies on how to develop a case to achieve maximum value for settlement or trial. The panelists will also focus on the types of witnesses you need in each respective practice area, including experts and including when to begin working with particular experts.
PART 3: GETTING TRIAL READY
On August 6, the panelists will focus on Getting Trial Ready. They will share everything you need to have lined up for trial, including which witnesses to call and witness preparation, how to plan for use of impeachment evidence, which motions to file and anticipate, and strategies for the presentation of evidence at trial to both win and win big.
Christian Jagusch (Co-Chair) is a physician specializing in Emergency Medicine and an attorney with Walkup, Melodia, Kelly and Schoenberger. Dr. Jagusch completed his medical training at Creighton University School of Medicine and his residency training at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center. Following residency, he joined a prominent Southern California Emergency Medicine practice where he was on the staff at a large tertiary medical center and a well-known pediatric hospital. Further pursuing his interest in patient advocacy, he graduated from UC Hastings and joined the Walkup firm to focus on medical malpractice and complex medical causation.
Valerie Rose (Co-Chair) prosecutes personal injury, medical malpractice, and product defect cases at Walkup Melodia on on behalf of severely injured individuals. She has been selected as a Northern California Super Lawyers Rising Star every year since 2013. Before joining the Walkup firm, Ms. Rose previously worked at the law firm of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, and attended law shool at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
Bobby Shukla represents plaintiffs in employment litigation at Shukla Law. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association and the Board of the National Lawyers Guild Foundatio. She is also a former Vice President of the Bay Area Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild. She has been named a Rising Star or a Super Lawyer every year since 2009 and named one of the Top Women Attorneys in Northern California every year since 2012. She is also a recipient of the Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services.
